Together with Nova Asia explores for dolomite in Perlis

The geologists of Nova Asia have conducted a thorough feasibility study of dolomite mining in Perlis and has obtained affirmative results with the reserves and quality. The site is reported to have fiscally feasible reserves of mineral resources for dolomite and limestone. The operation is expected to commence by the 2nd quarter of 2023. It is the company’s first time to fully ventured into the sector of dolomite, hence the company is actively welcoming collaborative partners with the expertise and experience in dolomite mining and processing.

Dolomite  is a source of magnesium metal and of magnesia (MgO), which is a material commonly used to make refractory bricks. Dolomite in a rock state or known as dolostone is frequently used in the building sector. It is crushed and graded for use as fill, railroad ballast, riprap, concrete, asphalt aggregate and road base material. While dolomite powder is utilised in a variety of industries, including steel production, cement production, agriculture, ceramics, glass, rubber, and mining.

The research and study were conducted with reference from the research carried by the Jabatan Mineral Geosains Malaysia (JMG). According to JMG, the area contained the best quality of dolomite in the entire nation and the laboratory testing report of the samples collected from our site has further proven.  A high-grade dolomite shall contain at least 19.67-21.86% of MgO. The quality of dolomite in our site is relatively high and are feasible to further process into Magnesium Ingot.

The example of processed Magnesium Ingot

Despite mining of dolomite, the company will not wish to squander the great quality of the minerals. The company has carefully planned to further process the yields into Magnesium Ingot. In the rising demand for die casting and alloy products across a variety of end-use sectors such as chemical, military and manufacturing industry, it is predicted to be the primary driver of Magnesium Ingot’s market expansion. Besides, the infusion of usage of Magnesium Ingot into other material like Zinc, Uranium and Aluminium makes it widely employed in other areas where requirements for lightweight, durable alloys are essential.

In line with the Perlis State’s Policy industrial development of Chuping Valley and the geographically ideal location which in close proximity with express highway and strategic rail pathway would improve cross-border trade and boost logistics activity in Perlis, as the location has great potential to be used as an incubator by prospective investors or location for transit offices as well as short term accommodation. We are foreseeing the potential of the location in building our very own mineral processing facility in future and ultimately anticipate it could be a starting point for more future projects.
